Ocian of Ocian Sound Medicine Music is an expanded states guide and established sound practitioner,
offering to audiences all across Canada, the United States and beyond. Ocian has dedicated her life to being of service and walking a path of remembering how to be in right relationship with the earth and all beings in this realm. She started this path 13 years ago with sound and energy work, then realized she wanted to make an impact with people and began learning Numa Somatic breathwork and animism rituals from Celtic, Andean and Hawaiian lineages. Ocian has been sitting with plant medicines for 10 years in the Shipibo lineage. She is dedicated to creating trauma aware, safe circles, ceremonies and experiences for people to explore and heal themselves.
Since 2010, she has been weaving together deeply transformative and profound healing spaces. She hosts and co-creates circles, ceremony and journeys, with the intention of creating resilient, self aware individuals and empowered communities through experiencing the ‘Art of the Muses’: Music & Sound. These sessions can include instruments such as: Crystal Bowls, Crystal Lyre, Chimes, Rattles & Feathers, Steel & Medicine Drum, her latest the Sansula and Triple Drone Flute and most specially her etheric and powerful vocal harmonics. These sessions are deeply relaxing and rejuvenating, bringing people into deep states of cathartic release. Many participants have reports of incredible physical, mental, emotional and spiritual shifts after their sessions.
Ocian first began her journey through sound with Greg Olsen, a Reiki Master in Calgary who builds Sound Tables. This is a massage table, hollowed out with high vibration speakers built in underneath, connected to a stereo. Laying on top, one can both hear and feel the music, creating a wonderful, relaxing exploration of vibrational medicine.
Ocian began working with this Sound Table in Calgary, AB, to accompany sessions in a Floatation Therapy Tank at Eden's Cove, a home-based community service centre. This centre was founded along with two friends, beginning in January 2011.
In August 2012, her journey led her to Victoria, Sound Table in tow, where she began offering relaxation massage, hot stone massage, Reiki and intuitive work including a 7 week Chakra Journeys.
In early 2013, in the living room of the old Salsbury Farm House in Saanich, BC, Ocian heard the most exquisite instruments, both once again and for the first time. She knew she was destined to play her own. Within months, boxes came containing the delicate stillness of pure earth crystalized in matter - these were the Crystal Singing Bowls. Moments after receiving them, Ocian and her dear sister co-created a safe space to hear the sounds the crystal bowls contained...
"I couldn't play for more than 7 seconds," she remembers. "They were so powerful... The sounds made my entire being shake. It was definitely an Initiation process."
Ocian began playing in nature, in the forest and by the local lakes and beaches, so she would start hearing the subtle language of crystal and learn how to use it. Once she got more comfortable with the crystal instruments, her journey transformed and she began offering her sound medicine to others. Once this foundation was set, she began to incorporate her voice. This was second nature to her, though previously she hadn't found an avenue to fully express this gift. "When I began hearing my own voice together with the Bowls, I had no idea what I was hearing... New sounds emerged, and they were teaching me how to use my voice in a new way... I was terrified and resisted singing with the Bowls for the longest time," she recalls. The resistance gave way naturally. "I was called to created a ceremony on the Full Moon. I placed the Bowls out on the cool grass on a warm summers night, knowing the Full Moon's glow would be a good guide for the process. I began singing with almost inaudible under-tones, just faintly heard within the booming drone of the Crystal Bowls. Never have I felt such deep resonance... I am still evolving this process of Deep Listening..."
In March 2015, Ocian's next instrument, the Crystal Lyre, found its way to Victoria from Montreal, Canada. The Lyre is made of tubes of clear quartz crystal, suspended and held delicately together. When struck, they vibrate soft, melodic sounds, of what could be described only as heaven. "The Lyre brought a new dynamic sound to the Medicine Bundle. And so began another Initiation process," she says.
This is indeed a journey of listening for Ocian, as she becomes re-acquainted with this Ancient Harmonic Language and moves deeper into Self-Mastery and SoundSeed Medicine.
